About Our Cooktop Repair Service

Cooktops are built directly into the countertop, making them harder to access and much more important to diagnose correctly the first time. A wrong diagnosis means removing the entire unit — a difficult and costly process, especially with stone or custom countertops.

Cooktops use three fundamentally different technologies – gas burners, radiant/ceramic electric elements, and induction coils – each with its own failure modes and diagnostic requirements.

Our technicians are licensed by California BHGS (#49152) and hold university degrees in radio engineering and electronics, giving them the specialized expertise needed for complex induction and smooth-top repairs. We service gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops from GE, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, and Bosch, as well as premium built-in models from Wolf, Thermador, Gaggenau, Miele, Viking, and Dacor.

For premium built-in models, see our High-End Appliance Repair page.
For ranges with an oven below, see our Stove & Range Repair page.

Common Cooktop Problems
We Fix

Cooktop failures depend heavily on the technology. Gas models involve ignition systems, burner valves, and gas supply regulation. Radiant and ceramic cooktops rely on resistive heating elements under glass and electronic control switches. Induction cooktops use high-frequency magnetic coils, power boards, and sensor arrays.

We identify the exact failed component before replacing anything and use OEM parts on every repair.

stove burners

1. Gas Burner Won't Ignite

Clicking but no flame usually points to a carbon-fouled or cracked spark igniter, a failed spark module, a clogged burner port, or a gas valve that isn’t opening. If only one burner fails to light, the problem is typically the igniter or a blocked port on that burner. If no burners click at all, the spark module or its switch is often at fault. Gas ignition issues should be fixed promptly for safety reasons.

2. Electric Coil Burner Not Heating

Common causes include a burned-out coil element or a corroded burner receptacle. The infinite switch that controls the heat level is also a frequent failure point – the burner may work on high but fail to maintain lower settings.

3. Radiant (Smooth-Top) Burner Problems

Beneath the ceramic-glass surface, issues often stem from a cracked or burned-out radiant element, a failed infinite switch, or a control-board relay. If the burner cycles on and off instead of holding steady heat, the switch or relay is usually the culprit rather than the element itself.

4. Induction Cooktop Failures

A burner that won’t recognize cookware, fails to heat, or displays an error code is often caused by a failed induction coil, a power or inverter board fault, or a bad pan-detection sensor. Note that induction cooktops only work with magnetic cookware. We first confirm it’s not a pan compatibility issue before diagnosing the appliance.

5. Unresponsive or Faulty Controls

Touch controls that don’t respond, a flickering or blank display, or settings that won’t hold usually indicate a failed membrane touchpad, control-board fault, or wiring issue. On radiant and induction models, the control board and power board are separate components, so isolating the exact source is the first step in repair.

6. Cracked or Damaged Glass Surface

A cracked ceramic-glass top on a radiant or induction cooktop should be addressed immediately. Cracks expose live electrical components and create a risk of moisture damage. We evaluate whether only the glass top needs replacement or if the elements beneath it were also affected.

Our Repair Team

Every service call is performed by the owner or our lead technician – not a subcontractor. The person who diagnoses your cooktop is the person who repairs it. Both hold university degrees in radio engineering and electronics and California state licensing, which matters on cooktops: induction power boards, radiant control circuits, and gas systems with electronic ignition all demand real electrical diagnostics, not parts-swapping guesswork.

Cooktop Repair — Frequently Asked Questions

Get instant answers to the most common questions Glendale homeowners ask about our cooktop repair service.

Why won't my gas cooktop burner light?

If you hear clicking but get no flame, the igniter is sparking, but gas isn't reaching or igniting at the burner – usually a clogged burner port, a worn spark igniter, or a gas valve that isn't opening. If a single burner is affected, it's typically that burner's igniter or a blocked port. If no burners click at all, the spark module or its switch is the likely cause. Because it involves gas, this is one to address promptly.

My induction cooktop won't heat or won't recognize my pan. What's wrong?

First, induction only works with magnetic cookware. If a magnet doesn't stick to the pan's base, induction won't heat it. If your cookware is induction-compatible and the burner still won't respond or shows an error, the usual causes are a failed pan-detection sensor, an induction coil, or a power/inverter board. These are power-electronics repairs specific to induction, which we diagnose at the board level rather than replacing parts on a guess.

The glass top on my cooktop cracked. Can I fix it or do I need a new cooktop?

On radiant and induction cooktops, the ceramic-glass surface is a replaceable part on most models, so a crack doesn't automatically mean a new cooktop. What matters is whether the crack let moisture or debris reach the element or coil beneath it. We inspect the components under the glass, then advise whether a glass-top replacement alone restores it. A cracked surface over live elements shouldn't be used in the meantime.

My burner heats on high but won't hold a low simmer. Can we fix that?

Yes. On coil and radiant cooktops, this is almost always a failed infinite switch – the component that regulates variable heat – or a control board relay. On induction, a failing power board may not modulate the coil at low settings. All three are repairable, and it's a common call.

Is it worth repairing a built-in cooktop, or should I replace it?

For most cooktops under 12–15 years old, repair is far more economical. Igniters, elements, switches, and boards cost a fraction of replacement. Built-in cooktops add another factor: they're cut into the countertop, so swapping in a different size or brand can require countertop modification running $3,000–$8,000 on top of the appliance. That makes repair the default for built-in and premium units unless the damage is structural.

Do you repair gas, electric, and induction cooktops?

Yes, all three, plus a radiant smooth top. Each technology has a different failure mode and diagnostic path: gas involves ignition and valves, electric coil and radiant rely on elements and infinite switches, and induction depends on coils and power electronics. We diagnose the specific system rather than applying a one-size approach.

Do you repair premium and built-in cooktops?

Yes. Premium and built-in cooktops are among our most common calls – Wolf, Thermador, Gaggenau, Miele, Viking, and Dacor, in gas, electric, and induction. These units use precision controls and brand-specific parts, and we use OEM components on every premium repair.

How long does cooktop repair take?

Most repairs are completed in a single visit, typically 60 to 120 minutes on-site. Control-board and induction power-board replacements are on the longer end; igniter, element, and infinite-switch repairs are quick. Over 90% of our cooktop calls are resolved on the first visit.

Do you offer same-day cooktop repair?

Yes, when scheduling allows. Calls booked before early afternoon are typically serviced the same day. Later calls are scheduled for the next business day.
